For our 2021 season, we are looking to hire a new Director of Operations, Co-Farm Manager, and Assistant Farm Manager.       Director of Operations

Position Overview: We are excited to welcome a new ‘Director of Operations’ to our team in 2021 to help nurture a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, transparency, trust, and love at Life Do Grow. This role will be critical for our operations moving forward as the “glue” or “central spoke” in our collective. 

Roles & Responsibilities: The roles & responsibilities of the Director of Operations will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership: Support program strategy and implementation with overall organizational goals and values. 
  • Internal Communication: Facilitating a consistent flow of information between all staff members, departaments, Co-Op Members, executive leadership, and Board of Directors. 
  • External Communication: Managing Urban Creators general communications and inquiries including website and newsletter.
  • Administrative Oversight and Support: Managing all aspects of Urban Creators programming, markets, events and special projects including logistics, coordination, documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Consensus Facilitation: Facilitating a process of collaborative decision making around daily operations, team coordination, programming, new opportunities, challenges, conflict management, and accountability.
  • Accountability: Nurturing a culture of collective accountability where we all uphold our shared values, community agreements, goals, process’, and standards for spatial organization. 
  • Data Collection and Evaluations: Documenting and consolidating impact metrics and narratives/testimonials. Co-produce our Annual Report & Program Evaluation with executive leadership.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • A collaborative approach to leadership, partnership development, and people management
  • Understanding of and interest in community-based efforts to build a more just world.
  • Ability to successfully support groups that come together across race, class, gender, age, sexual orientation and ability.
  • Comfortable working in a range of working environments, including outdoors and remotely; in groups/teams and alone; with flexible/adapting schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, project management skills, and facilitation experience.

Schedule & Compensation

The Urban Creators Director of Operations will be a full time position with an annual salary of between $40,000-$45,000/year.

           Co-Farm Manager

Position Overview: We are excited to welcome a second Farm Manager into our Life Do Grow community who shares our passion for working with the land, restoring natural ecosystems, and engaging youth and community in cultivating new futures. Our two Farm Managers will work together to: 1. Cultivate organic produce with and for our local community as a way of building food sovereignty and self-determination in North Philadelphia, and 2. Inspire a generation of growers by leading  farm tours, volunteer/service-learning projects, and community food education programs.

Roles & Responsibilities: The primary roles & responsibilities of the Urban Creators’ Farm Co-Farm Managers will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Maintaining landscape beauty and biodiversity at Life Do Grow farm
  2. Ensuring consistent production of seasonal crops, perennial hedges, flowers, and culinary/medicinal herbs throughout Life Do Grow
  3. Create herbal and value-added products
  4. Consistent maintenance of our compost system
  5. Documenting a seasonal farm plan, and maintaining records of crops planted, yields, and sales
  6. Harvesting, washing, and preparing produce for our weekly markets and for distribution to select customers.
  7. Co-facilitating tours, volunteer projects, and community food education programs. 
  8. Supporting community gardeners as needed

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of organic agriculture experience 
  • Experience with developing farm plans, and coordinating harvests/distribution
  • Experience working with youth and in communities of color
  • Experience managing volunteer groups, and facilitating conversations/workshops about food justice and sustainability
  • A collaborative approach to leadership, partnership development, and people management
  • Understanding of and interest in community-based efforts to build a more just world.

Schedule & Compensation

The Urban Creators’ Co-Farm Manager will be expected to work between 30-35 Hours/week from March-December, for a salary of between $26,000-$32,000/year.

Assistant Farm Manager

Position Overview: We are excited to welcome an assistant farm manager to Life Do Grow who shares our passion for working with the land, restoring natural ecosystems, and engaging youth and community in cultivating new futures. 

2020 Roles & Responsibilities: Under the guidance and mentorship of our Farm Manager, our Assistant Farm Manager’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  1. Maintaining landscape beauty and biodiversity at Life Do Grow farm
  2. Ensuring consistent production of seasonal crops (March-December)
  3. Maintaining perennial flowers and herbs throughout Life Do Grow
  4. Consistent maintenance of our compost system
  5. Harvesting and preparing produce for our weekly markets
  6. Co-facilitate tours, service-learning projects, and educational workshops

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Passionate about urban agriculture, working with the land, in community, and towards social justice
  • At least 1-2 years of farming experience
  • Prepared and excited to build relationships across race, class, age, gender, sexual orientation
  • Comfortable working in a range of working environments, including outdoors; in groups/teams and alone; with flexible/adapting schedules
  • Experience working with youth and in communities of color
  • Comfortable working with and managing volunteer groups and students
  • Comfortable participating in group conversations, discussions, workshops
  • Comfortable asking questions, and for help as needed. Willing to try new things, learn, and grow

Schedule & Compensation

Our Assistant Farm Manager will be expected to work 20 Hours/week, at a rate of $17/hour, for 10 months (March-December), totalling $15,000 for the season.
