Youth Voices

“My first interaction with the farm was my first time performing at Hoodstock that summer. This was the moment that sparked up everything I’m doing now with my music career. The very next Summer I performed at Hoodstock again and went off to a music college for Recording Arts so I could learn how to engineer my own studio sessions. After I came home I worked at the farm for the Summer putting a game plan together and I was able to get a LLC for my company”
“Urban Creators taught me more about inequalities many people face. Whether it’s food injustice, income inequality, land ownership inequality, this opened my eyes to see the bigger picture of what plagues my neighborhood. Being exposed to these injustices made me get politically involved with the future of North Philadelphia” (2020)
“Justice means to me, like this environment right here (pointing to the Life Do Grow farm). We saw justice when we came here, put the murals up, grew the fruit, let any neighbors from around here eat as many fruits as they want. We see justice because this was a dump, and now look what it is.”
“I’m thankful for having the farm around because it has changed my life drastically and the vibes there are positive and safe. Folks at the farm continue to support my peers, and they have been showing us love since day one” (2018).
“It’s good to reach out to the people in the community because you can’t try to change the community if you don’t have relationships with the people there. I ain’t seen anything like that [here] in a long time.” (2015)
“It’s a relief, like a breath of fresh air….The colors and everything going on right now…..they do something, like they have an effect on a person. Stuff we don’t even know about.” (2015)
“You could come here and speak your mind, no question is dumb here. You can always ask questions, and no matter what your opinion always counts…..people will listen to it”. (2017)
“The Urban Creators have always served as a great stepping off point to give people the necessary resources they need to become successful.” (2020)
